Same-Day Crowns by CEREC® in San Diego Provide Great Results Quickly

The primary advantage of CEREC® same-day crowns is that they immediately restore the aesthetic appeal and function of your smile.

CEREC® is an acronym that stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, which is basically a fancy term for technology that combines a computer-aided design system and a manufacturing system. It means that our dentist uses a computer to design your crown and a special milling machine to create it, all from our office.

The Many Benefits of Dental Crowns

There are two main parts to every tooth: the root that holds the tooth in your jaw, and the white crown that appears above your gumline. A dental crown is an artificial cap that your dentist custom-creates then fits over a tooth.

Dental crowns are incredibly versatile and can fix a number of cosmetic and dental health problems. Dental crowns can disguise cosmetic issues, such as:

  • Badly discolored or stained teeth
  • Misshapen or short teeth
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Chipped teeth

Dental crowns can also address oral health problems, such as:

  • Fractured or broken teeth
  • Severely worn-down teeth
  • Fillings so large there isn’t much tooth left
  • Cover dental implants
  • Hold a dental bridge in place

Crowns in Just One Visit

Sometimes you need a crown, but not right away – and that’s understandable, as getting a dental crown can seem like a long and complicated ordeal. In fact, some people put off getting a crown because they don’t want to schedule several days off or travel great distances to get their dental work done.

Fortunately, our San Diego dentist offers same day crowns. Advanced technology, known as CEREC®, allows Dr. Victor Tran to make high quality, natural-looking dental crowns in a matter of hours instead of weeks. Many of our patients love the fact that they can get CEREC® Same Day Crowns in San Diego.

CEREC® Crowns Are So Much Faster Than Traditional Crowns

Traditional crowns require two appointments, usually several weeks apart. During the first appointment, a member of your dental team uses a special putty to create impressions of your teeth. Next, they will remove some tooth enamel to make enough room to accommodate the crown. Your dentist will send the impressions to a dental laboratory, where technicians will make your crown.

You may receive a temporary crown to support any dental work, such as a root canal, that you may have had; this temporary crown will tide you over until you return to the office to have the temporary crown glued into place. The CEREC® is quite different. It starts when we take a 3-dimensional (3D) image of your mouth and use the computer-assisted design (CAD) software included in CEREC®. This 3D model will serve as a blueprint for your treatment. We’ll use the information from the 3D image to make your crown, using the Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) technology of CEREC® and a high-speed diamond bur. We’ll mill a precise restoration while you wait – our team will create a realistic-looking crown just for you.

Next, we’ll inspect the crown to ensure that it matches the color of your surrounding teeth before placing the new crown permanently in your mouth. This procedure creates an aesthetically-pleasing and natural-looking crown that blends in seamlessly with your other teeth.

Advantages of CEREC® Crowns

Getting your crowns in the same day is a major advantage, of course, but CEREC® crowns provide a number of other benefits. Benefits of CEREC® include:

  • Less drilling – traditional crowns require the removal of more enamel than CEREC® crowns
  • Secure – CEREC® crowns never come loose, so there is no risk of swallowing them
  • Quick recovery time – made from a sticky resin, temporary crowns require that you avoid eating or drinking for the first few hours; you can eat and drink with your CEREC® crown almost right away
  • Less time away from work or school – CEREC® requires just one visit to the dentist, not two

FAQs

Are CEREC Crowns Single-Tooth or Full-Mouth Crowns?

CEREC crowns are most commonly used to restore individual teeth that are damaged, weakened, or decayed. They are designed as custom, single-tooth restorations that fit seamlessly with your natural smile. Depending on your dental needs, however, multiple CEREC crowns can also be created to restore several teeth as part of a larger treatment plan.

Am I a Good Candidate for a CEREC Crown?

Many patients are great candidates for a CEREC crown if they have a damaged, weakened, cracked, or severely decayed tooth that needs protection and restoration. CEREC crowns are designed to restore both the function and appearance of your smile while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible. During your visit, we’ll discuss your goals, and determine whether a same-day CEREC crown is the best solution for your needs. In many cases, patients who want a fast, convenient, and durable restoration are ideal candidates.

How Long Does It Take to Get a CEREC Crown?

One of the biggest advantages of CEREC technology is convenience. Unlike traditional crowns that often require multiple appointments and temporary restorations, a CEREC crown can usually be completed in just one visit. Using advanced digital imaging and in-office milling technology, your custom crown is designed, created, and placed in a matter of hours. This means you can leave the office with a fully restored smile the very same day.

Are CEREC Crowns Natural-Looking?

Yes! CEREC crowns are crafted from high-quality ceramic materials that closely mimic the color, translucency, and appearance of natural tooth enamel. Each crown is custom-designed to blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth for a beautiful, natural-looking result. Because the restoration is digitally customized for your smile, most patients find it difficult to tell the difference between their CEREC crown and their natural teeth.

How Are CEREC Crowns Different From Traditional Crowns?

The primary difference between CEREC crowns and traditional crowns is the speed and technology used to create them. Traditional crowns typically require messy impressions, a temporary crown, and two or more appointments while a dental lab fabricates the final restoration. CEREC crowns use advanced digital scanning and computer-aided design technology to create your custom crown right in the office during a single visit. This streamlined process offers greater convenience, precision, and comfort while still providing a strong, long-lasting restoration.
